Municipality & Planning Department, Ajman, was established under Law No. (1) of 1968 issued by H.H Ruler of Ajman, assigning the municipality the task of boosting development and introducing services, with a small staff of 25, in addition to 250 laborers. In 2003 the number of employees rose to 273. Over the past 25 years, the municipality completed several urban projects that boosted the integrated development of the Emirate. Visitor to Ajman today can see the high level of progress achieved by the Emirate, visible in the development of new areas, highways, huge agricultural areas, gardens, parks, public utilities and malls.

- Drafting building codes
- Issuing license permits
- Improvement of old roads, re-asphalting and lighting.
- Construction of internal roads in all areas.
- Improvement and facilitating provision of municipal services in the different areas by opening two branches for the municipality, in Masfout and Manama, as well as opening a municipal office in the new industrial area.
- Preparing studies to develop urban plans and establishing regulations concerning building codes and building permits.
- Contribution in the construction and maintenance of internal roads and highways and construction of pavements.
- Landscaping and roundabouts and increasing areas dedicated for gardens and public parks.

The Municipality’s goal is planned development of land and leveraging available resources to achieve higher financial returns returns, as well as improving the quality of life in terms of services, housing, infrastructure and transportation, which will attract the affluent and investors. This will also enable Ajman to integrate with the ongoing economic boom witnessed by the United Arab Emirates.
