Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences
The award is established by decree No. 5 issued on April 10, 1999, by H.H. Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice president of U.A.E. and Ruler of Dubai.
The objectives of the awards are:
To honour individuals, universities, establishments and research centers all over the world for their outstanding achievements in the filed of medicine.
To honour individuals who, in the past, have contributed to the alleviation of suffering by helping to provide medical care to the people in the UAE.
To honour individuals who provided voluntary humanitarian medical services with the objective of easing the suffering of people subjected to exceptional circumstances such as catastrophes, epidemics, famine or wars etc.
To encourage the development of institutions dedicated to research and scientific method in the Arab World.
To enhance the relations between doctors in the UAE and the international medical centers in order to benefit from their expertise.
To support distinctive medical research and to encourage their publication in the Emirates Medical Journal.

The announcement of the activities is as follows:
The Award presentation Ceremony will be held on October 21, 2002 wherein, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum will present trophies to all the winners, followed by the Conference from 22 to 24 October, 2002, in Dubai, wherein the winners and other eminent speakers would present state of the art lectures.
