BIN MAJID HERITAGE REVIVAL

He is Shihabeldin Ahmed, Bin Majid, bin Mohamed, bin Omer, bin Aby AI Rakaeb of Najd. He was born in Galfar on the southern coast of the Arabian Gulf, which is known now as Ras AI Khaimah.

The historians and researchers were unable to determine his birth date. But, generally, it was dedicted that he was born on the beginning of the thirtieth of the nineth Hijri century; the fifteenth of the Gregorian century.

He was born in a family of famous sailors. He learned the skills and arts of the sea from his father, who was taught by his grandfather. He played a great role in this field and so was called (The Sea Lion).

Bin Majid was not famous only as a geographist or as a writer, but as one of the great ancient sailors in the Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea.

Bin Majid left behind many of his geographical and literary transcripts, which amounted to forty, the most of which were written in poetry. He also wrote a very important book named "The benefits and basis of Marine Science". The others of his books were written in poetry and were known as "AL ARAJEES". He also wrote a book composed of one thousand poetry phrases known as "THE COLLECTION OF ABBREVIATIONS IN THE BASIS OF MARINE SCIENCE".

To him we give gratitude for using the magnetic nee1 die and the knowledge of its uses, which he wrote in I his book "GHIBLAAT AL ISLAM", and his Marine science inventions were included in his book "AL ZAHABIAH". Also, he added more navigation terms to the marine navigation.

As the Europeans are proud of their navigators, the Arabs should feel proud of Ahmed Bin Majid, "The Sea lion".
