Definition:
Population, Housing and Establishment Census is the biggest statistical operation adopted by the official statistical agencies in developed and developing countries as well.
The population census is the operation of enumerating all individuals living within the boundaries of a certain country at a fixed in- stant and the collection of their demographic, social and economic characteristics.
Objectives:
The census aims to provide accurate and complete data on manpower resources of U.A.E. classified by population demographic, social and economic characteristics as well as their housing conditions. These data assist Planners and policy makers in adopting the suitable socio-economic development plans. Such data are also essential to researchers in their studies. The census also provides complete information on buildings by type and the characteristics of housing units they contain. The establishment data are mainly classified by economic activity and workers level.
All collected data through the census are confidential by U.A.E. federal law No.9 of 1974 .The article ( 7 ) of this law mentions that the personal data collected through statistical surveys or censuses are confidential and it is strictly forbidden to use it for non-statistical purposes.
Coverage:
The population census in its enumeration stage, covers all individuals, citizens and non- citizens, who exist within the political boundaries of U.A.E at the night 16 / 17 Dec. 1995 whether they are temporary or permanent residing at any location of the country.
On this occasion the General Postal Authority is issuing a set of stamps in 2 denominations. |
