Ajman museum has been built in the place of the old fortress which has been used as stronghold for the Emirates political leadership since the establishment of the Emirate. At the end of the sixtieth of this century, it became Ajman police headquarters and at the end of eightieth, His Highness, the ruler of Ajman, decided to convert it in to a museum after making necessary changes in the old building.
The main objective and interest of the museum is to show the history and heritage of the United Arab Emirates before the oil boom and to teach the future generations more about the nature of the life-style in the U.A.E. society during that era, in addition to the tourism role which plays a great part in the understanding and recognition of the tourists about the U.A.E. heritage and the social life-style before the oil boom. The museum is also considered as a cultural heritage and history for the visitor of the United Arab Emirates.
The museum consists of many sections and rooms such as: Fishing, Pearling, Broadcasting, Farming, Traditional Medicine, Old Kitchen, Desert, Dates Store, Traditional Market which composed of (17) different crafts, the most important .of which are the baker, coffee house, tailor, barber, herb seller, pearl merchant and also rooms for documents and manuscripts, traditional costumes, old school, women crafts, policing, living room, weapons, Sheikh Rashid room and the traditional games for boys and girls in U.A.E., which extended its nature and shape from the life environment at that time which are divided into an individual, collective, emotional, dancing and mental games, the most popular of which are: Al Dahrouj, Al Murihana, Al Hisht and Al Saglla.
